Human geography attempts to explain the relationship between all elements of human life and the space they occur over. It develops close interface with other sister disciplines in social sciences in order to understand and explain human elements on the surface of the earth.
A subject that studies physical phenomenons and interaction between different elements cannot be limited to be called “Social Science”. Geography is not just a Social Science, it is Science with a social element to it.
In the United States education system (and other countries), social studies is the integrated study of multiple fields of social science and the humanities, including history, geography, and political science.
Geography encompasses both natural science and social science as it examines people and their environment and serves as a bridge between the physical and cultural worlds. Some specialize in physical geography studying the natural environment, including the analysis of climate, vegetation, soils and landforms.

The other is human geography, which is a social science. In physical geography, the focus is on the natural world. All of these are subjects proper to a social science because they are mainly concerned with human society and human activity. Thus, world geography is both a social science and a physical science.
The major social sciences are Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Geography, History, Law, Linguistics, Politics, Psychology and Sociology.
It is important because its study helps us to gain knowledge of the society we live in. Generally, Social Science focus on the relationships among individuals in society. It is the mixture of many subjects like History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Social Psychology and many more.

The primary purpose of social studies is to help young people make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.
David Emile Durkheim is considered the father of Social Sciences or Sociology for their remarkable works in laying a foundation on practical social research. Social Science is the branch of science devoted to studying human sciences and the relationships among individuals within those societies.
Geography is concerned with the Earth’s atmosphere and physical surface, including how humans affect those things and in turn are affected by them. The discipline is a mixture of physical geography and human geography, making it both a physical science and a social science.
